Muse took off on me

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

Dratted muse seems to have decided that it wants to play in the snow rather than help me get my book written.  Dratted thing, I need to catch it and coax it back to work.  Hopefully I can get that done later on this week before the weekend hits, right now it seems like every time I have a chance to write, I have to be doing something else.

Fighting Scene

Monday, October 6th, 2008

I need to get some more work done on the novel, it’s been a few days since I got the chance to add to the word count and the scene I am working on is a definate fighter that does not want to be written, so I have to stick with it and push through to the other side.  There are going to be some very fun scenes following this one, I just have to get past this one and get to them.  I might cheat, though, and leave notes on how this one plays out and move on - deal with this scene in the first revision.

Looking for map software

Sunday, October 5th, 2008

I am looking for a good program that can be used to make decent maps for my novel’s world.  I don’t need anything fancy, just like a gamer’s cartography program of some kind would work for now.  I considered creating the map in GIMP and will probably resort to that, but I would really like something that would let me have some kind of comparison on scale for how far apart things are and such.

Eventually I want to create an interactive map that I can use to click on a town and call up information I need to know for my stories or where I can click on a dungeon and it will give me the images and floor plan for that dungeon including a history and who/what lives there now.  So far the only group I can think of that might have programs that would do what I want are the gamers.

Can I call that research?

Saturday, October 4th, 2008

I’ve been watching the Lord Of The Rings trilogy whenever I need some pure escapism… can I call that research? lol  Heir to Magic and The Lord of the Rings have very very very little in common, but they are both fantasy stories and there are going to be a battle or two in Heir to Magic.  Most in common they have, really, is displaced royalty and a long journey to get where they’re going.  I’m talking about the characters making a long journey, not the comparable time I have been writing Heir compared to how long the Lord of the Rings books have been out. ;-)

Got more work done on Heir to Magic

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

I’ve been working on Heir to Magic for the past few days.  A commitment to finish my novel for my mom.  She believed in my writing ability, not just my ability, but that I would be a published author.  So, I am determined to prove her belief in me was right.  I got around 500 to 1,000 words added to Heir to Magic and am working on adding more this weekend.

At the moment I am still a considerable distance from getting to the end of the novel, but I am at least making good headway and know where I am going with it.   I’m determined that I will be adding more words all through this month and finishing the whole novel by the end of this month so that I can start the second novel in the trilogy as my NaNoWriMo project this year.

Which means I have a LOT of writing to get done.
