To NaNoWriMo or not?

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

I am trying to decide if I would be completely insane to participate in NaNoWriMo this year.  I want to participate, but I also have a lot of other things that I have to do.  I know I write enough to qualify for winning NaNoWriMo ten times over in a month, but to focus all of that onto a single novel…. :::cringe:: I already have a novel in the works.

Now, there is some kind of deal I had seen that let you work on a current novel during that time, but I forget what it was called or where I saw it.  I like the challenge of a new story myself, so I might just go along with my scheme to start book 2 of Heir - rather or not I finish the rough draft of book one by then or not.  I know where book 1 ends, so I could easily start book 2, I just have to decide if I want to do that or not.

Bellaio Fountain as seen from Circus Circus

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007

Okay, I just had to share this! Last night as I was talking to my friend on the phone I saw this jet of water launch into the sky.  Later as I was sending an e-mail I looked out the window and the fountain was shooting up it’s water spray again, I grabbed my camera and took this series of pictures — that’s the fountain centered in the pictures along that band of red in the middle.

Look close at the middle there - you see the fountain spray along those red lights there? Couldn’t see spray of the Bellagio in last picture, well, maybe you can see it in this picture?

Leaving Alaska

me leaving AlaskaHere I am, heading for the security checkpouint at Anchorage’s apirport (think it’s renamed Steven’s International Airport now?? I forget, and it’s been renamed for several years now, but it’ll always be the Anchrage airport to me lol)  Anyway, I’m off for Las Vegas in this picture, and will be keeping things updated here at Heir to Magic while I am down there.

I even got some work done on Heir to Magic during the flight.  Not much, and written in my notebook since I was sitting between a couple of guys and did not want to mess with the computer in the tight spaces, but got some notes on it.  Nothing on my NaNoWriMo entry though, the muse for that seems to have run screeming from the challenge of keeping up with everything I wanna do this month LOL Poor thing, I don’t blame it.

Another picture from Anchorage, this is the welcome sign that they have at the base of the escalators leading up to the security checkpoint.

Welcome to Alaska

I like that helecopter, and this seemed like a good picture for starting out the trip entries with, so now that I have it and GIMP loaded onto the computer here it is.

And lastly here is me in front of the polar bear at the Anchorage airport, you can see the edge of his display case at the end of the sign in the above picture, he’s facing the welcome sign.

Time to hit the RedBull

nanowrimo-all-hail-redbull.gifI found this image online, but I forget where it was exactly, must go find out and leave a link to their site… Ah yes, of course! it was Language Is A Virus check out all his other icons too, they are really good.  Right now I am hitting the Sugar Free RedBull to get me woke up enough to get my butt in gear and finish what remains to be finished so I can scram out of here.  I’m actually looking forward to six hours on a plane with nothing to do but sort out my novels and get to work on them again.  Only minor panic attacks at the thought of flying when paired with the thought of a chance to catch up on work.

I’ve lost it… must retrieve my novel from the backup files

Saturday, November 3rd, 2007

Okay, now I am really really annoyed.  The copy of yWriter that I loaded onto my laptop the other day has got something wrong with it.  When I tell it to save a scene and close it the thing does not save the scene.  Even worse - it don’t seem to be saving *anything*.  Even the old stuff for Heir to Magic poofed.

I found it all in the backup files on the program, and of course for  Heir to Magic I have a backup on this computer and one on a thumb drive, but still… do you have any idea how heart stopping it is to open a book you have been working on for years and it’s no longer there. ::falls off chair in a faint::

So, the things I have to do just increased to include I have to also save all of my Heir To Magic stuff that I added in on the laptop since my last backup and my discovery of this unknown glitch.  I have no clue what caused this, since I have been using yWriter for several years, and so have my friends, and I have never seen it do this before.  If I don’t figure it out I may drop Spacejock a line just so he knows it happened to the program in case it is a glitch he’s been working out of it for some operating systems.

Ah well… back to work, then I can go write some more on Magic of Love: A Caregiver’s Story (my NaNoWriMo story).
