Rough draft 0% complete (Roughly 0 of 80,000 words - word count currently includes notes)

I am afraid that my goal to complete the rough draft of the first novel in the Heir to Magic trilogy by the end of this month is going to fail. I’m not going to give up yet, since there are still 20 days left in the month and I know what is supposed to be happening in the story - I just have to get the time set aside to get it entered into the computer.

Okay, I have been working on a book I want to handbind and sell rather than on Heir to Magic, I admit it. I’m hoping that by starting up bookbinding as a second home business I will be better able to raise the money that I need to raise to help me save my parents’ house. I have a lot of money to raise, and a LOT of work ahead of me, but I am not about to give up until someone comes out here and bodily evicts me from the property. Even then, I doubt I will give up trying to save my parents’ house.

Dratted muse seems to have decided that it wants to play in the snow rather than help me get my book written. Dratted thing, I need to catch it and coax it back to work. Hopefully I can get that done later on this week before the weekend hits, right now it seems like every time I have a chance to write, I have to be doing something else.

I need to get some more work done on the novel, it’s been a few days since I got the chance to add to the word count and the scene I am working on is a definate fighter that does not want to be written, so I have to stick with it and push through to the other side. There are going to be some very fun scenes following this one, I just have to get past this one and get to them. I might cheat, though, and leave notes on how this one plays out and move on - deal with this scene in the first revision.

I am looking for a good program that can be used to make decent maps for my novel’s world. I don’t need anything fancy, just like a gamer’s cartography program of some kind would work for now. I considered creating the map in GIMP and will probably resort to that, but I would really like something that would let me have some kind of comparison on scale for how far apart things are and such.
Eventually I want to create an interactive map that I can use to click on a town and call up information I need to know for my stories or where I can click on a dungeon and it will give me the images and floor plan for that dungeon including a history and who/what lives there now. So far the only group I can think of that might have programs that would do what I want are the gamers.
